Previous Versions

Carbonite 3.7 (Windows)

Released March 2, 2009

  • New 'Don't back up files of this type' functionality - The 'Don't back up files of this type' is now located in the Carbonite tab of the File Properties window, and includes a confirmation dialog. The dialog mentions the number of files to be removed and their total size; maintaining fine-grained control over the backup selection while making it harder to inadvertently remove files from the backup.

  • Searchable Backup Drive - The entire contents of a customer's backup are searchable both by name and last-modified date. Typing in part of the filename automatically displays all matching files, and files can be found that were last modified today, yesterday, in the last week, in the last month, or within a user-specified range of dates. Selected files can be restored with one click. Clicking on a file itself opens the Restore Previous Versions dialog.

  • If Carbonite was installed and instructed to let the user manually select files for backup later, the default backup selection can be easily set through the Options tab in the Carbonite InfoCenter.

  • If a user de-selects the entire Documents and Settings folder (called Users in Windows Vista) when Carbonite is set for automatic backup, the folder is re-selected after the next reboot to ensure maximum protection. Users wishing to de-select that folder can switch to having a Manual selection by going to the Options tab in the InfoCenter.

  • Updated Pause - Carbonite can now be paused for 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, 8 hours, or 24 hours by right-clicking on the Carbonite Lock icon in the system tray and selecting 'Pause for'.

  • Recognizing incompatible programs - While installing, Carbonite looks for running tasks and checks them against a list of programs that are known to conflict with Carbonite's installation and initial backup. If such programs are found running, Carbonite explains the situation and provides step-by-step instructions created by our Customer Support team.

  • Support request attachments - Support-related files can now be attached directly to support requests to be reviewed by Customer Support.

  • Enhanced keyboard navigation of the InfoCenter - Users can now user the keyboard to navigate throughout the items in the Carbonite InfoCenter instead of relying solely upon the mouse. This represents a major improvement in usability for customers with special accessibility needs.

  • EULA and Privacy Policy - The Carbonite installer now shows users our End-User License Agreement, including a link to our Privacy Policy.

  • Carbonite now backs up user-generated data for many older versions of the following programs:
    • Sage Peachtree accounting files
    • The AOL Personal Filing Cabinet
    • PDA data backed up by palmOne
    • Older versions of Quicken
    • Older versions of Quickbooks
    • ACT! databases
    • The default folder for Lotus 123 user-generated files

  • Double-clicking on a file in the Carbonite Backup Drive now provides quick access to restore any previous versions that the user has backed up.

Carbonite 3.6 (Windows)
Released June 25, 2008

  • Improves performance of Carbonite Backup Drive

  • Speeds up backup of large files

  • Helps you add files to your backup if you choose to back up manually

  • Implements several other usability and performance enhancements

Carbonite 3.5 (Windows)
Released January 25, 2008

  • The Restore Wizard helps you transfer your files and user accounts from your old computer's backup to your new computer with just a few clicks.

  • Carbonite v3.5 will automatically save up to 3 months worth of previous file versions. Simply right-click on any file in Windows Explorer or in the Carbonite backup drive and select 'Restore previous versions.

How can I tell which version I have?

To determine which version of Carbonite you are running:

    1. Double click on the Carbonite lock icon in your system tray to open the InfoCenter
    2. Click on the About tab

Your client version will be listed at the top of the About tab.

If you are running Carbonite for Mac, open the Carbonite Preference Pane and your client version will be listed at the bottom left of the Status tab.

How do I get the latest version?

Carbonite will automatically upgrade your client software about 2-4 weeks after a new release becomes available.

When a major new release becomes available (e.g., an upgrade from version 2.x to version 3.0), we will pop up a dialog box before installing the upgrade to inform you of any changes you should expect in the new release.
