Mobile file accessibility enhanced through updated iPhone®/iPod touch® and BlackBerry® applications
BOSTON, March 17, 2011 — Carbonite®, a leading provider of online backup, announces new additions to its "anytime, anywhere access" lineup with the beta releases of Carbonite Access for iPad™ and v2.0 of Carbonite Access for iPhone®/iPod touch®. Additionally, Carbonite introduces today an updated version of Carbonite Access for BlackBerry® Smartphones.
"Carbonite's mobile applications make it possible to carry all of your digital files in your pocket," said David Friend, CEO of Carbonite. "Other cloud services invite you to upload a subset of your files, but Carbonite has everything, even if you back up multiple computers. You never have to worry that the file you need is not in the cloud. That's the advantage of unlimited backup with anytime, anywhere mobile access."
Carbonite Access for iPad, now available for free in the App Store℠, provides Carbonite subscribers with the ability to easily browse, view and share all of their backed up files.
With Carbonite Access for iPad, Carbonite subscribers can instantly enjoy their backed up media in a number of ways including:
- Easy browsing of photos: Backed up photos can be previewed using thumbnails or quickly viewed full-screen using Carbonite's integrated image gallery.
- On-demand access to presentations, documents and more: Any file type supported by iOS can be opened directly within the app and attached to an email with one tap.
- Instant access to backed up music: Audio files can be played within the Carbonite app in a matter of seconds. You no longer have to wait for the file to be downloaded before the music starts.
In concert with the new iPad application, Carbonite has released upgrades for its iPhone/iPod Touch and BlackBerry Smartphone applications. These releases have the same photo viewing and music playing capabilities as Carbonite's new iPad and existing Android™ applications.
Carbonite customers can download the applications from the AppStore, BlackBerry App World™ or the Carbonite website. In addition to mobile apps, Carbonite offers web access to backed up files from any computer via Carbonite.com.
Carbonite launched its online backup service in 2006 and, in 2010, was ranked the 9th fastest growing private company in the U.S. in the Inc. 500 list, and ranked No. 1 in IT Services. Last year the company also earned the Tech Awards Circle Gold Award for the consumer/small office, home office (SOHO) service category and Privately Held Company of the Year honors from the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council.
Carbonite revolutionized the market for consumer and small-business backup services with its industry-first offering of unlimited online backup for a low, flat price. Since 2006, the company has backed up more than 80 billion files and has restored more than 7.2 billion lost files for over one million customers. Carbonite, which was ranked No. 9 overall and No. 1 in IT Services in 2010's Inc. magazine's Inc. 500 listing, backs up more than 150 million files every day to high-redundancy storage servers in its Boston and Somerville, Mass. data centers.
