David Friend - Chairman & CEO, Co-founder
David Friend has been a successful technology entrepreneur for over 25 years. He previously co-founded five companies: Sonexis, FaxNet, Pilot Software, Computer Pictures Corporation and ARP Instruments. He has been featured in USA Today, Tech Capital, The Boston Globe, Mass HiTech, Fortune, Forbes and Tom Peter's best-selling management book, The Pursuit of Wow!
David has been a lecturer at MIT's Sloan School of Management and is an active supporter of music and the arts in Boston. He is a trustee (emeritus) of the New England Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, and the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
David holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from Yale University and attended the Princeton University Graduate School of Engineering where he was a David Sarnoff Fellow. He is an avid marathoner, distance cyclist, windsurfer, and hiker.
Jeff Flowers - CTO, Co-founder
Jeff Flowers is a seasoned technology executive with deep IT and technical expertise. Jeff has worked with David Friend (CEO) since 1982 and co-founded Sonexis, FaxNet, Pilot Software and Computer Pictures. Jeff served as CTO of each of these companies.
In addition to the four companies he co-founded with Friend, Jeff served as VP of Development at ON Technology Corporation, a software vendor that provided groupware and utility products for Apple and Novell Netware operating environments. During Jeff's tenure, ON Technology completed its IPO.
Jeff holds a B.S. and M.S. in Information and Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology and attended the Northeastern University School of Business.
Andrew Keenan - CFO & VP, Finance
Andrew Keenan brings more than 25 years experience in finance and operations to Carbonite and has led the company through its rapid growth since early 2007. He has had extensive experience in managing fast growth companies both domestically and internationally throughout his career.
Prior to Carbonite, Keenan served as the CFO of Vovici, a survey software company. Before Vovici, he was CFO of Silver Oak Solutions where he helped orchestrate its sale to CGI, a $5B public company.
Before SilverOak, Keenan was Corporate Controller of Synchronicity, a global software and service provider. While at Synchronicity, he prepared the company for an IPO and, ultimately, its sale to MatrixOne.
Keenan also held Corporate Controller and other senior financial positions at Provant and Systemsoft which completed IPOs and a secondary offering, and managed all their financial functions as public companies through dramatic growth and over 25 acquisitions.
Keenan earned a BS in accounting from Bentley College and practiced as a Certified Public Accountant with Deloitte’s technology practice for 5 years where he was involved with 3 successful IPOs.
Swami Kumaresan - VP, Marketing
As head of Marketing, Swami is responsible for Carbonite’s largest sales channel, customer acquisition and retention, and oversees its brand, advertising and communications efforts. He joined Carbonite as its fifth employee in 2005, having already worked with the Company as a consultant since its founding earlier that year.
Prior to Carbonite, Swami was a consultant at Fletcher Spaght, Inc. (FSI), a Boston-based market research and strategy consulting firm, where he advised technology startups on sales and marketing strategy and also served as an Associate in FSI's venture arm, Fletcher Spaght Ventures. Prior to FSI, Swami was a financial analyst in the technology M&A division of Jeffries & Co (Broadview Int’l).
Swami holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from Yale University and serves on the Board of the Yale Club of Boston.
Jeffrey Robison - VP, Customer Support
Jeffrey Robison has been senior executive at on-line consumer services and financial services & insurance companies for over 20 years. His most recent experience includes being President & COO of Sports Loyalty Systems, a company that provided loyalty programs to Major League Baseball teams, and VP for Customer Service & Operations at Upromise where he was responsible for customer service and brokerage processing activities.
Jeff has also held senior positions in customer service, operations and marketing at CIGNA Healthcare, NatWest Bank (Acquired by Bank of America) and Citibank. Jeff holds a Bachelors degree in BioMedical Engineering from Boston University.
Rob Rubin - VP, Engineering
Rob Rubin has over twenty years experience building and managing engineering organizations and bringing software products to market. Rob has developed programming languages and environments as a researcher at Brown, the Hebrew University and GTE Laboratories, as a developer at Lotus working on LotusScipt and Notes VIP, and as VP of Engineering at NetScheme.
He has deep search experience from FAST Search and Transfer (sold to Yahoo and Microsoft) where he was the GM of the Web division, and as a co-founder of Argo Technology which built the first desktop search tool and licensed it to Lycos as HotBot Desktop. As CTO at Cahners, a division of Reed Elsevier, Rob helped transform B2B publications into online destinations and marketplaces, and as VP of Engineering at Homeportfolio and Eons, Rob tackled the challenges of web scale and developing at web speed.
Rob holds a B.A. in Computing Science from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Brown University.
Bill Phelan – Vice President, Products
Bill is responsible for driving product strategy, design, and execution for Carbonite’s portfolio of offerings.
With more than 20 years of experience, Phelan has designed and led multiple product initiatives for top consumer Internet and software companies. Before Carbonite, Phelan was group product manager at Intuit, where he was responsible for the Intuit Partner Platform and Intuit QuickBase, the number one online database for Web-based business applications. Bill also co-founded Veridiem, an on-demand marketing analytics service (sold to SAS Institute). He has also led product management organizations for Unica Corporation, Quaero Corporation (now part of CGS Systems), and Progress Software.
Bill holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Lehigh University.

Gary Hromadko
Gary has been a private venture capital investor for over 10 years and joined Crosslink in 2002 to focus on investments in the communication services & infrastructure sector. He also sits on the Board of Equinix (NASDQ: EQIX) and his previous investments include Packeteer (NASDAQ: PKTR), Netcode (acquired by Netscape), Medior (acquired by America Online), Yipes (acquired by Reliance Communications), and OpSource. Before Crosslink, Gary was a partner with Merrill, Pickard, Anderson & Eyre, an early stage technology venture capital firm. He was also a partner at Robertson, Stephens & Co., where he focused on equity research in the software sector. Gary began his investment career in public market investing at Dodge & Cox and holds a B.A. from Carleton College and an M.A. and M.B.A. from the University of Virginia.
Todd Krasnow
Todd Krasnow is an accomplished entrepreneur, consumer sales & marketing executive and early stage venture investor. Currently at Highland Capital Partners, Todd is a Director on the Boards of several privately-held companies including OnForce, and is a member of the Board of Advisors at Harvard Business School's Arthur Rock Center for Entrepreneurship.
Previously, Todd was a member of the original management team at Staples and served as its EVP of Sales and Marketing. During his tenure at Staples, Todd won a gold "Clio" award for the best retail advertising in the United States while the company reached over $7 billion in sales. He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and an A.B. in Chemistry from Cornell University.
Bill Nelson
Bill Nelson has served as the CEO of several software companies over the past 20 years, most recently as Chairman and CEO of Geac. Under Bill's direction, Geac grew from a small hardware manufacturer to the largest software company in Canada with revenues of approximately CDN $1B. Prior to Geac, Bill was President & CEO of On-Line Software (NYSE), President & COO of Pansophic Systems (NYSE), and CEO of Pilot Software (recruited by David Friend).
Bill was a member of the White House Conference Task Force for Information Services of the National Commission of Libraries and Information Sciences during the Carter administration and has also been a board member of ADAPSO (a software industry association). Recently, Bill has served on the Boards of several public and private companies including Manugistics (NASDAQ), Geac (TSE), Catalyst International (NASDAW), HealthGate Data (NASDAQ) and RTI, Inc.
Bill holds a B.A. in Chemistry from Swarthmore College, an M.B.A. in Finance from the Wharton School, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Rice University. Earlier in his career, Bill was a National Science Foundation Fellow in Economics, an Assistant Professor of Economics at Washington University and has taught economics and finance at both the University of Texas and the University of Missouri.
Pravin Vazirani
Pravin joined Menlo Ventures in 2001. He began his career at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory where he designed digital receivers for satellite communications. Later he worked as an engineer for Pacific Communication Sciences, Inc. and as a product manager for ADC Telecommunications in their Wireless Systems Group. Most recently, he evaluated investment opportunities for @Ventures, the venture capital subsidiary of CMGI.
Pravin represents Menlo Ventures on the boards of Credant Technologies, Ingrian Networks, Reactrix Systems, Sepaton and WiQuest. He is also involved with the firm's investments in Centrality Communications, NewScale and Q1 Labs. Pravin is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering) and the Harvard University Graduate School of Business (M.B.A.).
