Carbonite Inc, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, was the first online backup service in the industry to offer unlimited backup space to consumers and small businesses at a flat, low price. They revolutionized the online backup industry by simplifying the backup process and creating a service that simply works. Carbonite Online Backup was named 'Best Windows Backup Tool' by Lifehacker, 'Labs Winner' by PC Pro and 'Editor's Choice' by NextAdvisor
Computer users should not have to think about backup or choosing which files are important enough to be saved which is why Carbonite Online Backup was designed to automatically seek out new and changed files on a computer and save the data on remote servers. Once the one-time, easy software installation is complete, Carbonite Online Backup works quietly in the background and does not interrupt normal computer use.
Since the product launch in 2006, Carbonite Online Backup has secured more than 69 billion files and restored more than 6.1 billion lost files for Carbonite customers. Through partnerships with Lenovo, Packard Bell and Acer, Carbonite has expanded its reach by pre-installing the Carbonite Online Backup service on select PCs. Also, due to popular demand, Carbonite's reliable, secure and easy-to-use online backup service is now available for Mac users as well. In March 2009, Carbonite announced the extension of their online backup service for Intel-based Macs with OS 10.4 or 10.5.
History
In 2005, Carbonite, Inc. became the fifth joint venture between David Friend and Jeff Flowers, both well-known Boston-based serial entrepreneurs. Together, the pair co-founded four other companies: Computer Pictures Corporation, Pilot Software, FaxNet Corporation and Sonexis Incorporated. While their past companies were business-to-business, Carbonite Online Backup is their first consumer product.
The company started with a strong focus on photo backup and made their debut with Staples in 2006. It wasn't long before Carbonite's backup service was paired with Microsoft Money 2007 and also renewed for the 2008 release. Carbonite, Inc. expanded their online backup service in 2006 by offering unlimited backup space for one price. With unlimited backup space, customers can back up just about anything; emails, music, financial records and documents.
