Falcon Construction Founder/President Rob Mercurio and Vice President Michael Mercurio maintain a business office in their hometown of Boston. But, as a nationwide contracting company with satellite offices in Las Vegas and Miami, they usually find themselves away from their desks often at one of their sites across the country. That means they don’t have time to pop back quickly to access files.
"It's not very efficient to carry a laptop when you're on the go as much as we are," Michael Mercurio says. "Instead, we need to be hyper mobile and rely on our smartphones and iPads to get business done."
After signing up with Carbonite three years ago, the brothers have found that they use the service's mobile access tool nearly every day, keeping their business on track no matter where they might be. "If we didn’t have it, I don't know what we'd do. We really rely on it. Carbonite is like another member of our team."
Before switching to Carbonite, the Mercurios were using external hard drives to back up data. Once a week, the brothers and their employees would load all new documents onto the drives and cross their fingers that nothing bad would occur between file creation and download day.
"It was an unsustainable system," says Michael, "especially if we weren’t in the office to do those downloads." A friend told them about Carbonite and they gave it a try. Once they discovered all the benefits, they never looked back. "There's a lot of comfort in knowing our files are safe, no matter what," he notes. "We have a good deal of proprietary information stored, so protecting that data is crucial."
