The thing I like about Carbonite is that you set it up and it just works. I've had no problems with it, and it works seamlessly with our Exchange server.
Lee Itson, Waunakee Remodeling

"When I took over the IT role, one of my top priorities was to find a new backup system for company data. A home remodeling company of about 50 people near Madison, WI." When Itson came on board at Waunakee Remodeling, the company was backing up to disk, but it didn't always work and was a frustrating manual process. He began looking for a new solution, and had a list of requirements. The new solution had to be affordable, easily back up the company's ever-changing inventory data, and work seamlessly with both Exchange and Microsoft SQL servers.

Looking for a Solution

When Itson started his search, he wasn't aware of any affordable cloud backup vendors that offered protection for databases as well. He wanted to use one vendor for the company's data backup, but wasn't sure if it would be possible. He decided to start looking into a number of vendors, one being Carbonite.

"I had seen Carbonite ads and was aware of the brand, so it was one of the first vendors I looked at," says Itson. "I was happily surprised to hear that Carbonite now offers database backup!"

Itson started a free 30-day trial backing up his company's computers, and was impressed with Carbonite Business' features.

"I've seen other people use competitors, and they didn't offer the same level of functionality as Carbonite,” says Itson. "Having the free computer backup trial helped because I could figure out if it worked for us risk-free."

A Simple Solution

Once Itson made the decision to go with Carbonite, he was able to get everything up and running quickly thanks to Carbonite's valet install service. After purchasing the backup plan, Itson had a call with a Carbonite database specialist who remotely installed Carbonite on his databases and made sure everything was set up according to his specifications. He was able to choose his retention settings, compression settings, and even choose if he wanted to back up locally, to the cloud or both. But most of all, Itson was pleased with the set-it-and-forget-it nature of the solution.

"The thing I like about Carbonite is that you set it up and it just works," says Itson. "I've had no problems with it, and it works seamlessly with our Exchange server. I can concentrate on other things without worrying about whether my backup system is working."
