1. Why back up a database with the cloud?
When you back up with the cloud, your backup will be secure, hassle-free and efficient. Backing up with the cloud is also immeasurably more reliable than antiquated methods of data protection, like zip drives, CDs, and tape drives. All of these older methods are error-prone and have high rates of failure.
With Carbonite Server backup, your can rest easy knowing their backup is protected offsite – safe from fire, spills, theft, or anything else that could harm your data.
2. What do the Carbonite Server backup plans support?
Server plans support the following databases and live applications:
- Microsoft SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2007, and 2010
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, 2007 and 2010
- Windows System State (including the registry, certificate server, and active directory information)
- MySQL Server 5.x
- Oracle Server 11i, 11g, or later
- Hyper-V Server 2008, 2012
- Windows NTFS & ReFS files and folders
3. How much does Carbonite Server backup cost?
Carbonite offers three plans to protect your servers:
- Server Basic costs $799.99/year and provides 250 GB of backup space to share between an unlimited number of Windows servers, databases and live applications
- Server Plus costs $899.99/year and provides 500 GB of backup space to share between an unlimited number of Windows servers, databases and live applications
- Server Pro Bundle costs $999.99/year and provides 500 GB of backup space to share between an unlimited number of Windows servers, databases and live applications and workstations
Subscribe for longer and save. Multi-year pricing provides a 5% discount for 2 years, and a 10% discount for 3 years for all Server plans.

4. What happens if I go over my storage limit?
Once you get close to your storage limit, we’ll send emails to the account administrator, notifying them know that they need to add more storage to your account. Once you hit your storage limit, we’ll stop backing up any new files until you delete files from your backup or add new storage to your account.
Even though we are committed to notifying you about your backup, we strongly recommend that you proactively monitor your usage to avoid interruption to your backup.
5. Are Carbonite's Server backup plans HIPAA compliant?

6. Can I access my Server backup remotely?
Unlike other files protected by Carbonite, you are unable to access your server backup from other computers, or through the Carbonite mobile app.
7. How do I restore my Server backup?
If you are able to use the existing computer, you can easily begin your restore within the Server backup client. If the hard drive has crashed, you must first reinstall the Server backup client and your cloud certificate on the new hard drive.
Once installed, go to the Restore tab, select the backup that you want to restore to and click "Restore." You'll be asked to specify your restore preferences. Carbonite Server backup will then locate your backed up files in the cloud and restore them to the computer on which you're working.
