Robert is a retired police officer from Mount Airy, Md. who is always on the lookout for cybercrime. He's careful to avoid suspicious-looking web links and email attachments and he never shares personal information over the internet. But even the most vigilant computer users can fall victim to a ransomware attack – something Robert learned that the hard way.
Robert, who is active in the Lions Club and the police alumni association sat down at his computer one day and found that all his business files, family photos and email correspondence with fellow club members had been encrypted and rendered useless. Robert also saw a note demanding that he pay a hefty ransom to get his files back. This goes to show you that none of us are immune from ransomware attacks. In Robert’s case, however, he knew he wouldn’t have to negotiate with cybercriminals.
"Thankfully, I had Carbonite and all of my files were securely saved offsite. Dell had to replace my hard drive and motherboard and once that was done, I contacted Carbonite and got everything back," he said. "Carbonite is worth every penny!”
